A big month of racing action at Dodge City Raceway Park wraps up with Friday night’s Fire & Safety / EMS Appreciation Night featuring the URSS Sprint Cars atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.
Along with the URSS Sprints Cars, the track’s IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars will be in action. Friday’s card that offers free admission to all Fire & Safety / EMS personnel gets under way at 7:30 p.m.
Friday’s action, which coincides with the kickoff of Dodge City Days, wraps up a racing month of July at DCRP that has included the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6 and the Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede last weekend.
Jetmore’s Ray Seemann leads the URSS Sprint Car ranks into Friday’s action, sitting atop the point charts ahead of rookie contenders Zac Taylor and Richie Dewell. Reigning series champion Brian Herbert, currently ranked fifth, topped the May 11 event at DCRP while Taylor Velasquez was victorious the last time out on June 29.
In DCRP championship chase action, Austin Allen has recaptured the top position in IMCA Modified points while Jeff Kaup and Billy Phelps retain the top ranking in United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars, respectively.
Last weekend’s Modified Stampede shuffled the deck with Austin Allen coming out with the points lead by just five markers over Jon Herring, Jr. Only seven points separated the top five in points after Friday night’s action with Cody Gearhart, who entered last weekend atop the point charts, and Ryan Heger losing ground when they missed the Saturday night feature cut.

With another pair of top-five finishes last weekend, Jeff Kaup stretched his lead over Clay Sellard from 11 to 62 points as Austin Walker joined Mike Shenberger as the only repeat winner in Sport Mod action.

Billy Phelps holds down the top spot despite suffering his first DNF of the year last Saturday night as Perry Misner drove to victory lane to become the eighth different winner in as many feature events.

Matt O’Hair and Jarett Lunow hold down the top positions in the track’s other championship chase divisions, the Thunder Cars and the Hornets.
O’Hair moved atop the Thunder Car point charts last weekend as he took his second win of the season in last lap fashion on Saturday night. The Thunder Cars next see action on Friday, August 23, on the first night of the USAC Southwest Sprint Car double.
Lunow has topped four of five Hornet main events to build up a 30-point lead. The Hornets return to action on the inner asphalt oval on Saturday, August 31.
Tickets to Friday’s Fire & Safety / EMS Appreciation Night featuring the URSS Sprint Cars along with Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars are just $12 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Just four of 18 scheduled nights of competition in 2013 at DCRP remain after this weekend’s Dodge City Modified Stampede including USAC Southwest Sprint Cars on August 23-24, championship chase action on August 31 and the season ending Jerry Soderberg Championship Memorial Event on September 28.
