An open-wheeled division already familiar to fans at I-76 Speedway will be sanctioned beginning this season by IMCA.

Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will race every other Saturday at Fort Morgan. Opening night is April 7, with the final point race set for Sept. 21.

“We have run a sportmod class with rules similar to IMCA’s for five seasons,” promoter Butch Speicher said. “One of the best things about this division is that guys can buy and race an older Modified, and they’ll be able to come here if they want to run for points.”

Speicher anticipates sharing a number of drivers from Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke and tracks in western Nebraska already running the IMCA division.

“We will have one season for all drivers to transition to the IMCA rules. We had quite a few IMCA legal cars running here last year,” he said.

Only IMCA legal and licensed drivers will receive Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points. IMCA will also keep track points for licensed drivers only.

IMCA also sanctions the Modified division at I-76.
